Feadán Ór Membership

Piper Peter Cormack

Feadán Ór is grounded in a tradition of education which continues to be fundamental to the band’s success as musicians and competitors. If you’re looking to learn an instrument because you’re having a “mid-life crisis,” we’ve met you before. If you’re a 4-year old who drives his parents nuts by marching around the house “playing” a make-believe bagpipe made of a fanny-pack concealing a tape-recording of bagpipes, we’ve also met you! Ór, if you’re a retiree who’s wife of 40+ years has threatened to throw you out of the house if you didn’t find somewhere else to practice, we’ve also met and welcomed you. And, if you're just following in dear ‘old dad's foot-steps, we’ve got a place for you (as well as your dad!)

Rev. Steven Howarth

If you’re a doctor, housemom, student, or farmer looking for a hobby, Feadán Ór is the perfect place to find it. Here’s what some of our newer members have said about Feadán Ór:

“Pipe and Drum instruction offered is excellent and band practice is very well run. There is a lot of generosity shown in sharing knowledge and experience.”

“Feadán Ór is a very inclusive group of individuals. Students and new folks are meant to feel part of the Feadán Ór ‘family’ right from the get go.”

Lead Drummer Tom Foote

If you’re an accomplished musician, there is enough of an outlet here to keep you busy, too! We have a tremendous range of abilities within the group, promising the opportunity to advance, no matter what level your skills. One such individual is lead drummer and instructor, Tom Foote, an open-grade drummer from such esteemed bands as the Peel Regional Police and 78th Frasers:

“I had been away from playing for a while and wanted to share my talents and encourage others to better their playing. Feadán Ór has a great group of people who are dedicated to improving themselves musically.”

Whatever your motivations are, learning to play an instrument can greatly enhance your life. Working within the band has given many members greater self-confidence and a sense of teamwork as well as a “family hobby.”

“I’m learning to challenge myself, I’m trying something new (even at age 50), and I’m learning to not be afraid to fall down a few times before I get better.”
